Stoneware pottery coasters for protecting surfaces from heat
Hand building process
The clay for the coasters is hand rolled from grey clay and left to set. When sufficiently dry the house design is hand drawn, so each coaster will be a little different. The coaster is then left to dry before firing under boards to reduce warpage. The coasters have two firings, the first to around 1100 degrees centigrade and the second, to over 1200 degrees. Prior to the final firing, the coasters have three coats of glaze applied. Whilst every attention is made in refining the coasters, they will be subject to irregularities in shape – each one is unique! The process takes around than 2-3 weeks to complete – this allows for the hand rolling of each coaster, any refining, drying before the first firing, glazing and then final firing and cooling.
Each coaster has rubber feet to preserve your furniture.
The price is for 4 coasters, handmade in my studio in the Surrey Hills
