Red lips stoneware pottery coasters
Hand building process
The clay for the coasters is hand rolled from grey stoneware clay and then imprinted with lip shapes whilst still damp. The coasters are then left to dry between boards to reduce warpage. The coasters have two firings, the first to around 1100 degrees centigrade and the second, to over 1200 degrees. Red slip is applied prior to the bisque firing and then a clear glaze is brushed on before the final firing. Whilst every attention is made in refining the coasters they will be subject to irregularities in shape – each one is unique! The process takes around than 2-3 weeks to complete – this allows for the hand rolling of each coaster, drying before the first firing, glazing and then final firing and cooling.
Each coaster has rubber feet to preserve your furniture.
The price is for 4 coasters, handmade in my studio in the Surrey Hills
