Raffia Coaster

Stoneware pottery coasters for protecting surfaces from heat
Hand building process
The clay for the coasters is hand rolled from grey or red stoneware clay and then individually designed and left to dry. The coasters have two firings, the first to around 1000 degrees centigrade and the second, to over 1200 degrees. Prior to the final firing, the coasters are painted with either a coloured slip or underglaze and then given a final glaze. Whilst every attention is made in refining the coasters will be subject to irregularities in shape – each one is unique! The process takes around than 2-3 weeks to complete – this allows for the hand rolling of each coaster, drying before the first firing, glazing and then final firing and cooling.
Each coaster has rubber feet to preserve your furniture.
The price is for 4 coasters, handmade in my studio in the Surrey Hills
