Stoneware pottery platter for all serving Summer and Winter salads
Hand building process
The clay for the platter is hand rolled from grey or red clay and formed over a mould. Once, the clay is leather hard, shapes are cut out in the platter for form a range of designs. The platter is then inverted and dried for around a week before the bisque firing, which is to around 1000 degrees. After cooling, the platters are glazed to above 1200 degrees depending upon the colour used.
Whilst every attention is made in refining the platters, they will be subject to irregularities in shape – each one is unique! The process takes around than 2 weeks to complete – this allows for the hand rolling of each platter, drying before the first firing, glazing and then final firing and cooling.
The price is for one platter handmade in my studio in the Surrey Hills
