Stoneware hand built pottery jug with imprinted leaf design, ideal for all liquids or for arranging flowers
Hand building process
Each jug is made from grey stoneware clay, which dries to an off white. The jug is impressed with fresh leaves whilst still damp and when set up joined with a revealed seam and the side attached to the base. When reaching a leather hard stage, the spout and handle are attached. The design of this jug has a handle that is attached at the top only – so some care needs to be taken in use, eg hold at the base whilst using – it is still functional! The jug has two firings, the first to around 1080 degrees centigrade and the second, to over 1200 degrees. As the jugs are not made using a wheel, the shapes can be irregular – each jug has subtle differences and is unique! The process takes more than 2 weeks to complete – this allows for the original rolling out, drying before the first firing, glazing and then final firing and cooling.
The price is for one jug, handmade in my studio in the Surrey Hills
